Bosnian pine is a very attractive, slow-growing pine tree. It has dark green, medium-length needles and light grey bark.

Bosnian pine is different from other pines for two reasons. First, it will eventually grow moderately tall, but remains fairly narrow. This quality makes it good for narrow spaces or small yards. Second, it is not as dense as other evergreens, with some visibility through the branches.

Thus, it is a great option where a solid evergreen mass is not desired.

There is one Bosnian pine at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. It is at least ten years old and has been a great performer with hardly any maintenance. We have had a great experience with it, despite being on the edge of its elevation limit.

Prune when young to create a healthy, well-shaped specimen tree. No other maintenance required.
