Common rue is perennial plant grown for its beautiful leaves. Through much of the growing season, it grows as a tidy mound of blue-green, pinnately dissected leaves. The texture and color of the leaves create a nice contrast to other landscape plants.

In mid-summer, it produces clusters of small, greenish yellow flowers above the leaves. It is tolerant of hot, dry conditions.

Common rue is a nice foliage plant at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. The flowers are not that showy, but the leaves are very attractive.

Cut off flowers, if desired. Cut old stems and leaves to ground level in late winter.
