Furman's red sage a shrubby perennial flower native to Texas. It has small, shiny green leaves on branching stems. Growing as a nice mound, it produces flushes of beautiful crimson red flowers throughout the summer.

This plant is heat and drought tolerant, but is not always winter hardy in Colorado Springs. However, its continuous production of nice flowers makes it worthwhile to grow as an annual flower even if it won't always survive the winter.

Furman's red sage is a beautiful plant with eye-catching flowers, but is not reliably winter hard at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. It has been planted many times. It will survive for a few years depending on the severity of the winter, but eventually dies out. However, it is useful as an annual flower for hot, dry locations.

Cut back to new growth in spring.
