Rather than growing as a flowering vine, Mongolian Bells clematis grows as a clump-forming herbaceous perennial flower. This plant produces a profusion of nodding flowers from May to September in shades of blue, lavender, pink and white. The flowers are followed by feathery sphere-shaped seed heads that persist into fall.
Mongolian Bells clematis is planted in two places at the Xeriscape Garden. Early in the summer they are beautiful plants. They flower for a long period and the blooms are very attractive. The one downside is they get floppy by the end of the season, with the stems splaying out from the center.
Cut to ground level in late winter or early spring.
