Montgomery spruce is a medium-sized, evergreen tree/shrub. It has a beautiful light silvery blue color.

When young, the plant grows as a compact, rounded shrub. As it matures, it develops a central leader and grows into a pyramid-shaped small tree. It can be a good evergreen choice for smaller spaces and moderate moisture.

There are two Montgomery spruces growing at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. The older specimen is growing as a tree with a central leader. The younger specimen is more globe shaped. Both have been good performers, adding nice blue color and winter interest to the garden.

No maintenance required under normal conditions. New growth and young plants can be susceptible to deer browsing.
