Sensation deep blue sage is an eye-catching perennial flower when in bloom. In mid-summer, it produces upright spikes of small, deep blue flowers. Since the flowers open from the bottom of the stalk to the top, this salvia blooms for a long period of time.
Before it flowers the leaves grow as a dense clump of dark green foliage. It may bloom again if the spent flower stalks are removed. It is a heat and drought tolerant plant.
Sensation deep blue sage has been an excellent perennial flower at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden. The compact size and longer bloom time period make this plant an improvement over the earlier May night sage. It has proven to be heat and drought tolerant.
Cut old stems and leaves to ground level in early spring. Remove spent flowers stalks to promote a second flush of blooms.
